In my opinion, spring is the best time of year. Each spring, I always enjoy the northeastern corridor of the USA—and yet, I don’t think one could find a more beautiful place to celebrate spring than on Lake Como, Italy.
Every year in late March and early April, the town of Bellagio, which is also known as the Pearl of the Lake, earns its title as the most beautiful city on the entire lake. Bellagio houses some of the most beautiful gardens, as well as some of the best boutiques for silks and Italian accessories on Lake Como.
Beloved by artists from all over the world, and especially in spring, Bellagio offers fresh air imbued with the fragrance of freshly-blooming flowers such as wisteria. Photo opportunities also include snow on the foothills of the Alps, along with beautiful landscapes from the lake’s only botanical garden, which surrounds Villa Melzi.
One of the biggest highlights for the region is the return of the full staff to the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni for the seasonal reopening of the only five-star hotel in Bellagio.
In 2018, Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni and The Carroll Group were happy to welcome travel journalist Mark A. Thompson, Ph.D. to meet with the Bucher Family and our management team. Mark’s enthusiasm for the splendid property and the surrounding beauty was contagious!
At the time, I was nursing a broken right foot and was worried that I would have problems taking him to some of Bellagio’s most beautiful sites on the lake such as Villa Balbianello—but Bellagio is blessed with superlative hosts and ambassadors for its regional splendors.
Coincidentally, while we were visiting Villa Balbianello, Mark encountered my colleague from France—who had also broken her foot! My colleague and I, the two of us with our injured feet! What a perfect photo op, which I am pleased to share here—along with some of our other favorite photos taken with Mark during his visit with us.
